Cost Effective Solutions to Store Blood Samples
DNAstable® Blood and DNAstable® Blood LD are innovative products for dry storage and preservation of DNA in blood samples at ambient temperatures. The DNAstable Blood matrix forms a thermostable barrier as samples dry, protecting the blood DNA from degradation. DNAstable Blood is available in two convenient formats: pre-dried in tubes and multi-well plates (DNAstable Blood) and liquid (DNAstable Blood LD). Once the DNAstable Blood reagent is mixed with blood, samples can be dried in a laminar flow hood at room temperature, in a ventilated 40°C incubator, or in a vacuum centrifuge. Samples can then be stored at ambient temperature for at least 12 years (based on accelerated aging studies).

Reliable polymorphism detection using melting curve analysis after 9 months of storage

After blood rehydration, genomic DNA was purified using the QIAamp DNA Blood Mini Kit. DNA eluates (2 µl) were then analyzed using the artus® MTHFR LC PCR Kit. ‡ Both samples showed no significant difference in melting curve analysis and indicated a heterozygous variant.
*Accelerated aging studies: A temperature increase of 10°C corresponds to a twofold increase in shelf life. For example, DNA stored at 40°C for 2 years corresponds to an estimated storage time of 8 years at 20°C.
