DNA SampleMatrix®Genomic DNA Data - Now Available as QIAsafe™

DNA samples stored in SampleMatrix® exhibit superior recovery levels compared to conventional freezer storage and demonstrate minimal degradation.

At a criminal forensics lab in San Diego, California, identical DNA samples were stored for eight months both in a SampleGard® 96-well plate containing SampleMatrix® and in a freezer.

Yields were two to three times greater with SampleMatrix®. The superiority of SampleMatrix® is especially pronounced at lower starting quantities.

Heat Stressed
Varying amounts of human genomic DNA samples (50ng; 20ng; 10ng; 4ng)stored and heated in SampleMatrix® show no apparent degradation after heat stress at 70°C for 24 h and are comparable to fresh human genomic DNA amplification of equal amounts (Freezer Control). In fact, PCR amplifications of human genomic DNA in SampleMatrix® consistently show better amplification in the presence of SampleMatrix® compared to water, suggesting that the SampleMatrix® induces optimal conditions for the amplification of genomic human DNA.

Short Tandem Repeat (STR) Analysis is a PCR-based DNA Fingerprinting technique employed by most forensic crime labs. A genomic DNA sample stored in both conventional freezer storage and in SampleMatrix® was assayed by STR on an ABI Profiler Plus instrument. Results show identical profiles for the sample in both storage formats. Peaks are higher in the SampleMatrix profile due to higher DNA recoveries.
