The company is founded on a compound library and intellectual property which it deploys to collect, protect and store biomaterials subject to degradation, including nucleic acids, proteins, and cells. The applications are broad and include diagnostics, biobanking, research, and industrial. The company recently introduced an innovative line of CE- IVD marked sample collection products for: (1) cell-free DNA and tumor cells in blood for pre-natal testing and liquid biopsy, (2) DNA in saliva for medical and personal genomics, (3) RNA and DNA for gene expression testing.

Job Summary

This position is a Sr. Buyer/Planner role in the Manufacturing Operations Department. The primary responsibilities include: Supply agreement review, sourcing, negotiating, purchasing, supplier performance management, inventory planning, and being a key member of the Operations team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Establish Supply agreements as needed to maintain items required for manufacturing
  • Procure inventory items based on MRP analysis and in compliance with Quality System Regulations
  • Process requisitions, ensure understanding of the requestor’s expectations, confirm proper authorization, and convert to Purchase Orders for materials, supplies, equipment, and services
  • Help establish and maintain a supplier certification program
  • Issue Requests for Quotations on an as required basis
  • Analyze vendor quotations and award bids within established guidelines
  • Establish and maintain appropriate ERP parameters for assigned parts
  • Must work effectively with the end-users of products and services to understand their requirements and ensure that goods or service(s) purchased will support their needs
  • Follow-up and/or expedite critical purchase orders to ensure uninterrupted business operations
  • Help resolve quality and invoicing issues between end-users, Accounts Payable, and suppliers as required
  • Maintain good and ethical business relations with suppliers by ensuring that they receive courteous, impartial and objective treatment
  • Provide guidance to less experienced personnel in relevant tasks (order placement, order status, receiving, etc)
  • Take part in new product launch activities such as supplier recommendations, supplier qualification efforts, and ERP setup of purchased material


  • Use appropriate planning tool such as MRP or spreadsheets to convert Sales Forecasts and historical demand data into a Master Production Plan
  • Schedule Production and QC work centers to ensure manufactured products are available when needed
  • Conduct regular meetings to ensure production and QC activities are progressing on schedule
  • Evaluate material availability and address shortages
  • Review MRP-generated action messages and execute so as to optimize labor efficiencies and cost effectiveness
  • Communicate product availability and priorities to other plant personnel

Essential Qualifications

  • BS/BA, in related discipline
  • Advanced degree, or equivalent experience required
  • 8 years or more experience of Buying/Planning within the life sciences biotech/medical device industry
  • CPIM/APICS certification desirable
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485:2016, CE/FDA regulations required
  • Travel may be required as part of supplier relationship management

Preferred Requirements

  • Demonstrates a solid grasp of knowledge in the principles of Procurement and Material planning
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP/MES/MOM systems functionality
  • Experience with rapid growth environments
  • Experience in ERP/MRP implementation
  • Experience with procurement of biological materials
  • Established relationships with key suppliers in life science for Biomaterials
  • Experience in establishing and negotiating agreements with US, Europe, and China Suppliers
  • Experienced in managing vendor scorecards
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
